Our mission is to create a sustainable future and protect the environment by significantly reducing fresh produce loss and quality deterioration through the development of eco-friendly products that prolong fresh produce shelf life.

Brief History

Founded in 2018, BioLeaf acquired the knowledge, intellectual property, product portfolio, and recruited the R&D team of start-up company BotanoCap.

Leveraging over $7M in previous investments in BotanoCap, and over ten years of advanced, eco-friendly plant protection technologies, BioLeaf continues this legacy with R&D product development in shelf-life extension of fresh fruits and vegetables at BioLeaf’s R&D labs located in the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel.

BioLeaf’s offices are in Holon, Israel.

Leadership Team

Shai Beilis

Chairman

Mr. Shai Beilis is the founder and CEO of Formula Ventures Ltd., the General Partner of several venture capital funds. Mr. Beilis was also the Chairman of Formula Vertex UK Ltd., the advisor for the European technology venture portfolio of UBS Capital.

Prior to the Formula Group, Mr. Beilis was CEO of Clal Computers and Technology, an Israeli IT holding company traded in the Tel-Aviv stock exchange. Mr. Beilis has served as Director or Chairman of over seventy Israeli high-tech companies, including several public companies (Formula Systems Ltd, Click Software Ltd, E.M.T. computing Ltd, and others). Currently, Mr. Beilis serves as Chairman of several startups, and of RadView Software Ltd.

Mr. Beilis holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehoboth, Israel, and a B.Sc., cum laude, in Mathematics, Statistics, and Economics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel.

Ziv Shomroni

CEO

Mr. Shomroni has over 15-years’ experience in entrepreneurship and management. Mr, Shomroni joined BioLeaf after working in general management (CEO), business development, marketing, and operations at various companies in different industries.

Mr. Shomroni was VP of Yissum, the tech-transfer company of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for seven years.

Mr. Shomroni has a diploma of Directors and Senior Corporate Officeholders from Tel-Aviv University’s Graduate School of Business Administration and a B.Sc. from the University of Maryland.

Avishay Bar-Gil

CFO

CPA holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from the academic College of Management. a certified CFO from Bar Ilan University.

Served as a manager at the accounting firm KPMG Somekh Chaikin and as a controller at a stock exchange company.

Dr. Arye Markus

Chief Scientific Officer (CSO)

Professor at Ben-Gurion University, Dr. Markus has developed several commercial plant protection products successfully marketed by Makhteshim (now ADAMA) and by other agrochemical companies.

Dr. Charles Linder

IP Officer

Charles is a retired professor of Departments Biotechnology and Desalination and Water Treatment at the Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research, Ben-Gurion University, Negev, Israel.

Since 1998, Dr. Linder has been developing unique microencapsulation of volatile essential oil pesticides and repellents. His other projects are in the development of membranes for water treatment and purification.

Dr. Avishay Pelah

R&D Manager

Dr. Pelah has comprehensive skills in conducting and supervising research and development projects in microencapsulation and formulation for agricultural applications.

Dr. Pelah spent four years as R&D manager of BotanoCap and was responsible for developing products from concept to production.

Mr. Rami Golan 

Chief Agronomist

Mr. Golan is post-harvest technology expert. He has extensive knowledge in developing innovative disinfecting methods for fruit and vegetables sensitive to conventional disinfection methods.

Ms. Natalie Pears

QA and Logistics Manager

Ms. Pears has a B.Sc in Chemical engineering and professional experience in R&D.
